Is it normal for a doctor to just take you off ativan and tell you there not writing you anymore prescriptions and he was on this med for 4 years of not longer for his CVS and helped him. I mean I know the pill epidemic is out of control but that's just not right I don't think.

My understanding is that long term users should be weaned off Ativan.

Any chance the doctor would write for a med outside of the Ativan/benzo category?  Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is said to be non addictive.

It is tough when something is helping to have it removed.  Did the doctor give a reason?

Hi Hope 7511,

Was your boyfriend sick consistently for the 7 years  or was he sick less during the last four years he was prescribed the ativan and is now sick daily?   Has he ever had a break?  We have the same problem with not being able to plan and it is really miserable for both of us!   We have ativan available to abort attacks but not for daily use, for which there's a different anxiety med.  Attivan does help with the anxiety of the episodes once the pain starts and sometimes removing the emotional anticipatory triggering but not with the vomiting or pain. When he had access regularly to the maxalt (under the tongue migraine med), he was much much better but the insurance company stopped covering that.  They've also stopped covering his regular dosage of other meds and it is a battle even to return to what somewhat worked in the past.

I read your other post too and congratulate you on the disability.  We are in that process too and may have some questions.

We are also finding the local pharmacy is altering the prescriptions that the doctor writes, changing dosages, timelines,  etc.  It is such a battle!

In the beginning it was awful he was sick every month 3 to 17 days. Now he can go months but he always has bad days with his stomach. We went years not planning anything because he could be fine and we would get in the car and boom he's sick.

Our lawyer was a blessing. The main thing they wanted to see was a journal of every time he was sick what the different things we tried. There was some very interesting things our lawyer found if you wanna pm me I can give you some more info. Its a huge battle and I would love to help you two through anything I can

The car sickness.. Get's my son too. We have posted travel tips on here if your interested. Dramamine, Sea bands, peppermint (or ginger) everything, salty snacks, Noise cancelling headphones help on planes.. things like that. Have been able to navigate planes and theme parks with fine tuning our approach to the motion sickness.

Have you found another Doctor then? We went through several. Both GI's and Neuros. Maybe the next one will be more helpful.
