Hey there we havent posted in a bit.  Things are going OK here in Columbia since we had to change from Dr. F to our PCP; our PCP is great, but Kiley is taking a backslide and has been admitted 3x in the past 4 weeks for 5-7 days each.  She's doing better than in the past and thats a blessing, but we believe we are starting to stagnate and spin our wheels. We're having some issues with the transition between doctors and the hospital @ which Dr. F was practicing is undergoing a flux of sorts in regard to how to treat the multiple CVS pt.'s since he has retired.  It's not going to be the way it was when Dr F. was there according to info from medical directors from the board, but they dont know what will be different or how.  They will know something in September 2009.  This has prompted us to look into moving to Milwaukee for Dr.V b/c we have already moved to Columbia, MO from Austin, TX area in January for Dr. F and another move would be what we have to do.  Now that a door may be open to move back to Texas that would be a gift from the Lord.  Can anyone provide info on Dr. McCallum?  Where in TX is he now located and is anyone seeing him currently or seen him in the past?  Our main objective was always to get back to TX providing that we have my wife Kiley managed by a doctor that is educated in CVS as well as having a treating hospital for ER/admission situations.  Any information about this would be gigantic for us and our life.  Thanks so much!

Adam,
Here is the latest information I have seen posted.  I did a search, 3 mos and newer with the key words, Dr. McCallum, Texas

"...The closest adult CVS dr to you would be Dr. McCallum at Texas Tech, El Paso campus.  His appointment number is (915) 545-6200.  Talk to  Sara or Maria and they can get you in.  He's still in the process of moving, so the appointment may take a bit.  Ask them for a list of exams he will want done prior to your visit.  You can have them done locally and bring the results with you.   That's what I did and it worked great.  He could look at the results, then diagnose me the same day..."  This is a part of a post on 5/28/09

I am sorry Kiley is still having such a rough time of it.  Believe me when I say we understand, Kate and I are both just out of the hospital ourselves.

I don't know if Dr. McCallum is seeing patients yet, or exactly what his role will be in El Paso.  He is a founding chair of the new medical center at Texas Tech, El Paso.  The info Pattie gave you is the contact info I have.

The Adult CVS clinic at KUMed is still seeing CVSers.  Dr. Esfandyari has taken Dr. McCallum's position.  I have not met her yet, so I can't offer a personal opinion.  Her contact info is (913) 588-4054.

I just got off the phone with Sara at the office. She said Dr McCallum will not be seeing patients until sometime in Sept, possibly Oct.  They are not taking appts at this time.

Please please please!  We live in central Oklahoma and need to find a doctor who can help my daughter.  We've seen a gastroenterologist in Tulsa, but he'd never dealt with CVS before, and wanted to put her on antidepressants.
Of course, I said no.  She's 14.  All the Family Practice doctors we've seen have tried her on different meds but nothing seems to work without adverse side effects and not much relief from her CVS.  Is El Paso the closest?  I'd drive to the moon if I could to get her some help.  She just started high school this year and she's having a really bad episode.  Thanks, Susan...

Susan,

Last I heard the CVS clinic is still up and running at Kansas University Medical Center, in Kansas City, KS.   Dr. Esfandyari took over the position that Dr. McCallum left when he made the move to El Paso.  I have not met with her (yet) so I can't give a personal recommendation.  All I can say is that Dr. McCallum selected her to take his position, so I'm confident that I can call the division of GI mobility at KUMed when issues arrise.  The CVS clinic's phone number is (913) 588-4054.  I do know she is currently seeing Dr. McCallum's CVS patients.  The wait is about 2 months.  When you call for an appointment ask if there are any additional tests they want done so you can get them out of the way before the appt.

As far as Dr. McCallum's position in El Paso, I don't know for sure that he has started seeing patients.  He is the Founding Chair of the Department of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso.  I don't know if/when he will start holding clinical hours.

Dr McCallum is not yet seeing patients.  Last contact I had, I was told to ck back on Sept 30 for a possible timeline.  We've given up and gone ahead and made Jen an appt with Dr V for Oct 20.  She's in the hospital again for the 3rd time in one month.  The drs here are tired of us saying we are waiting on Dr McCallum.....so.......the appt in WI.  Will be keeping an open mind to seeing Dr McCallum at some point, too, since El Paso is much closer to us than WI!!

Oct 20 can't get here quickly enough!!  Each hospitalization has been for 4-5 days.  And she's never good between times.  A new GI put her on higher doses of Ami, CoQ10 and L Carnitine.   But they seem to think these are supposed to do magic and keep her out of here.  So when she keeps coming back, they start the 'it's your meds' reasoning.  Even had a psychologist come in this week.  He pronounced her only borderline depressed and said she had a right to be!!  Gi was singing a new tune today!! Psych told him there was nothing he could do to help Jen, that she needs the specialist and to keep digging for answers!! LOL!

Upside, after the first day of hell here, I got the doc to add Thorazine to her IV meds and she got some sleep finally.  She still spent too much time awake and miserable......but it's progress.  Hoping Dr V will be able to give them more precise dosing instructions so that Jen can avoid more of the misery.  I'd be thrilled at this point to spread the cycles back out to every 4-6 weeks......like they use to be.

Hugs,
Char

God bless you and keep you all!  Any information is better than no information at all.  No information means no hope.  She had a particularly bad day today at school.  Will call first thing Monday morning.  Please...what is Dr.  V's name?
