Hi there,

Wondering if anyone out there has had experience with Cyclical Vomiting and the NHS? I’ve not quite had an official diagnosis but the most recent set of drs I’ve talked to are fairly certain that this is why I’ve been vomiting so much and so often..

My experience so far has not been great, having had an 8 week long episode last summer which resulted in various GP appointments and trips to A&E with no conclusions other than it could be IBS or psychological... It’s only been since the end of last year that it’s seemed like people have listened and now we’re at the point that within days of starting an episode they’re happy enough to send me up to the hospital for fluids even if I’m not quite in the dehydration danger zone..

Thanks,
Kristi

Hi Kristi!

Welcome.

I'm glad you found us.

Can I ask if your from the UK or Canada? Referencing the NHS, I am guessing UK.

It seems like you have more of a grip on getting care than a lot of people that I have heard about. We do have some UK, Ireland etc message board people, but not sure how often they check in.
Have you reached out to our UK counterpart, CVSA UK? they have Facebook and a website. A wonderful family day that they hold each year.

CVS is often misdiagnosed. I would recommend checking with CVSA UK for a list of treating Physicians. It would give you a direction to go in.

Hi!

UK based in Scotland. I’ve had a look but there’s nothing like this on the site, good information though.

It’s taken a few years to get to that point, I’ve had symptoms since I was 18, (6 years ago) but just thought I got really bad stomach bugs that end with me bringing up blood, looking back on everything I’ve read it all more or less makes sense...

Might have to look into that, currently waiting on a general gastroenterology appointment in a couple of weeks with the team that have read my file and brought up their suspicions.

Thanks though!

The information on this portion of CVSAs page is priceless. It was super active when I started looking into what was wrong with my son. So I'm sorry that you missed that.

Everyone is welcome here regardless of where they are from. The archives have information that you can't find just anywhere.

Will be interested to hear what happens at your appointment. But follow up with CVSA UK, they have newsletters and family day which can be very helpful for local support. They can also help you with physicians to consult.

I would go into your appointment with a log if you can. you can print brochures and pamphlets on CVS to take to from the main website.

Let us know how it goes!

One more thing about CVSA UK is that a note or call might help you with the proper questions when you do have your GI consult.

The UK newsletter has been fabulous, I hope you can get prior issues through their web site.  There have been times I found information that I was otherwise unaware of.  I have not received a newsletter in a long time but hopeful they are still being published.

I echo Blynda with please keep us updated.  And you are of course very welcome here on CVSA US/ Canada.  Please do review the archives and the web page where you will find helpful information such as The Empiric Guidelines by Dr. David Fleisher, his study on adults and an anecdotal study on the supplements (CoQ10, L-Carnitine, Vit B and Magnesium) and prescription meds.
